I remember when that book came out at the assembly I stayed up for most of the night trying to make sense of the whole dating thing and I got to the point that I had a couple of beers and, wow, THEN it seemed to make some amount of sense, that is until the next day.

Quite sometime back after I first heard about the child abuse scandal I was really torn. On one hand I was so po'ed with the wts, on the other hand I thought that sl could undo a lot of 'good' things accomplished by hardworking brothers. I emailed Bill and we continued email exchanges for awhile, I posted on the site and then.... really weird things happened with the elders. Odd looks, phone calls... At the same time is when I slowed down big time and stopped reporting time, I was so paranoid I really thought that it was possible they found out. Although my very practical husband (nonjw) said that IF they had hacked into my emails or whatever, and I were to find out, well, there would be a lawsuit. SO point being: I think paranoia is totally normal (that's coming from me though so...) and look at it like this IF they found out what you're doing how on earth would they be able to tell you without incriminating themselves? Keep it anonymous and you should be safe.
In fact, when I ordered the Freeminds Journal, and I received a confirmation from Randy, I was paranoid HE was a jw. Hahahahha. Now it just makes me laugh. Nice to know I'm not the only one who's been through it.

Funny that thousands of people wear "special wristbands" everyday, everywhere, to let er workers know if they have a serious medical conditiion. As a nurse she should know this. What's sad is that so many witnesses have and will read this and the many other articles about polyheme that circulated the country and will assume they should not accept it without ever looking into it.
looking at the smurf thread i was wondering, in my congregation in the 80's there were also storys of demonic cabbage patch dolls attacking jw kids.
i wasn't allowed to have one because they might be demonized.
was it just my cong.
Yeah, when I was young I had a friend pass along the rumour to me. Something about an elders daughter owned a cabbage patch kid and the little animal cabbage patch kids (koosas) came to life and attacked her. Scared me, I was pretty young.
i was thinking of how the watchtower always seems to be using a scripture and somehow applying it to themselves.
let's take some bible verses or passages and have a little fun with making our own interpetation........example# 1.....matthew 25: 13, "keep on the watch, therefore, because you know neither the day nor the hour"......"keep on the watch" refers to our continuous reading of the watchtower magazines and watchtower publications.
"you know neither the day or the hour" but the "faithful and discreet slave has insight into such matters and that is why we must always be on the alert and listen to them!.........example # 2.....mt.
i haven't picked up any of many bibles in several weeks, funny, after reading this thread I just feel like doing some personal bible study. ; )

there has been a lot of debate about the number of memorial partakers staying around the 8,500 mark for years now, up by 5 this year, compared with the 11,000 or so that partook in 1935 when the heavenly calling was closed.. .
personally, i do not have the actuary skills to be able to work out how many who partook in 1935 are likely to still be alive to day.. .
Hm, how many partakers in 1935 left the org.? We see a decrease in the numbers over time, many people thinking that most have died, how do we know that a fair number haven't just left?

Last year I had seen an article in the paper about what was going on and I went online and started reading the stories of the victims, wow. A year before when the Catholic Church scandal came out, I remember blatantly saying to my husband, "if I ever found out that the jw's were involved in a cover up like that, there would be problems" next I said "if I weren't a jw I'd have to be a pagan"
Check out silentlambs. Very interesting. The child abuse issue might have a lot to do with why so many of we newbies are here. I have told many, many people about the scandal and tell them to go to sl.

apologies if this has been asked before, but.... when i was growing up into the fabulously handsome critter i am nowadays, i always remember talk of the great tribulation that would not only befall mankind but overtake this system of things in the near future.
in fact one of my earliest memories was standing in a queue that seemed to go on for miles (i was only 7) outside with my mum and aunt/cousins at a cinema to see starwars, so i reckon it must have been 1977 and listening to them talk of it.
anyway i digress, what and when exactly is the "great tribulation" according to jw beliefs.
now it's "we're deep in the last days" or "last part of the last days"

Well, looking at Matthew chapter 24.... I see better now where Blondie and others have said it's a flip flop doctrine. Jesus had put it like this...
Perilous times, great trib, great trib cut short for elect, sign of Jesus in heaven, elect gathered, and NO ONE knows when.
Society has unbelieveably successfully manipulated the bible to their favor. Who are the elect? Well, according to them the 144,000. When are they gathered? According to the society, it began in 1919. Their explanation as to the gathering taking place after the trib is that they say Jesus was referring to the to the tribulation that the early chrisitans would experience before the destruction of Jerusalem and the gathering could be any time after THAT tribulation. Well, the problem is that the tribulation Jesus spoke of is one that would be unparalleled. So, either, it already happened or it will happen. If it already happened, then the chosen were gathered and we are not to expect another. Or it has happened, and the chosen have not been gathered. \
That's why I had wondered about their official stand on whether or not they really teach there is going to be one.
